Today Ambassador Susan le Jeune d’Allegeershecque welcomed Scottish Human Rights activist Matthew McVarish to Vienna. Promoting the “Stop the Silence” Campaign against child sexual abuse, Matthew walks all across Europe, covering 16,000km and visiting 29 countries to raise awareness for the issue – the Road to Change. Also joining was Dr. Rainer König Hollerwöger, president of Austrian NGO IPS-Wien which works to prevent and document child sexual abuse.

The Ambassador said:

“Matthew is incredible, I admire his determination and stamina. His cause is a very important one – as he points out, one in four girls and one in six boys in Europe fall victim to child sexual abuse. That’s why I fully support his campaign. We all must do more to stop this. With the global Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative (PSVI) the Foreign Office plays an active role in bringing about a culture of zero tolerance against sexual violence, especially involving children.”

Matthew will be in Vienna until 27 January. Find out more about his journey: http://roadtochange.eu/
